The Breckenridge brewery has been around awhile. I remember a Breckenridge neon sign up, back from before my drinking days, at Murphy’s Bleachers during craft beer’s first big go around in the 90’s (when it was a microbrewery). Compared to some of their newer brethren/competitors their mission of” creating balanced, approachable and interesting hand-crafted beers” may seem a little dated. Who needs approachable and balanced beers when you can have a super bitter palate destroying quadruple ipa brewed with guava? Well, maybe that doesn’t sound so bad, but there is something to be said for a beer that you can have a few of without it having to be the center of attention. And it’s not that Lucky U IPA isn’t worth paying attention, with a nice hoppy bitterness that leaves you wanting more. It just doesn’t demand it. Its refreshing enough to quench our thirst as the weather gets warmer, but with enough substance to warm us up while it isn’t quite there. Lucky us indeed. Cheers.
